Gretchen Sanewsky

I moved to Michigan from New York State in August 2002, responding to the call to become Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. I am married to Rev. William (Bill) Rowland, who works as a Sales Manager in Jackson , and recently served as Interim Pastor at FBC of Marshall. We have a son Guerin who is 10, and two daughters, Maya who is 7, and Kylen who is 3. I hold a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University and an MDiv. from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I have been in pastoral ministry for more than 13 years.

My vision from the church is for the body of Christ to be a mission outpost in our communities. There are so few places in our world where we find true community. I believe Christ calls the church to be a loving, healing, reconciling family. At this point in ministry I feel an urgent call to provide spiritual nurture to families within and outside of the church. My greatest gifts in ministry are pastoral care and counseling, preaching and worship, envisioning, and mission. Due to the nature of the church today, I have also gained more knowledge and skill than anyone would care to have in conflict management. I find self care and support from other pastors crucial to ministry. I have always participated in such groups, and was involved in developing the New Pastors Institute in the ABC of New York.
